Making Friends on ACT 9

The ACT Ride brings people together.  Some of our best friends have been found on the Ride.  Here, Avery talks with Barb McKinney about life and other important stuff..
Jack and his new friend Lakelynn were nearly inseperable...

But he found time to chat with JD....
And reconnect with Caleb, an ACT 8 buddy....

Cody and Kim are awesome Mom/Son crew from Illinois.  We were glad to have met them...

McFarland UCC Youth Group: ACT 9

On Day 3, the McFarland UCC Youth Group arrived in Pardeeville to help us out.  Their enthusiasm and energy lifted the spirit of every rider and crew member that encountered them.  We hope to see them again next year!

Caboose and Rider Zero: ACT 9

The ACT Ride had many touching and sweet moments, the arrival of the caboose and Rider Zero is one that happens each evening at camp.

Caboose is the final pack of riders, who arrive at camp to the applause of everyone else, followed by a long line of support vehicles, the last of which carries the Rider Zero bike.  The whole community turns out to make sure that everyone is home and safe.  It is part of what makes the ride a special place-- everyone is equally important, no one gets left behind.  A success for one, is a success for all.

When's the last time 300 people cheered for you at the end of the day?
It's how the world should be, how the world could be.
Rider Zero, a riderless bike, represents all of our friends and family who can't be on the ride.  It is a moment to pause in your day and remember those that are missing.

Time to Play! Kids having fun on the ACT Ride

The small bunch of children who collected at Pardeeville HS on Day 2 and 3 of ACT 9 found time to dance and play, in addition to helping out wherever they could.
Our hope is that ACT10 will include even more young folk.  HIV/AIDS affects entire communities, including children.

Bring a friend to volunteer with you!-- Day 2 ACT 9

Avery was able to bring friend Sofie with her to Pardeeville to help chop tomatoes and such.  They also managed to have a pretty good time.

 Random dancing!

Welcome to Spring Green, ACT 9!

Avery and Jack begin their day with an egg delivery.  There were four big boxes like that.  It takes a lot of eggs to feed hungry riders and crew!
Avery enjoyed a renewed sense of kitchen confidence during the ride as she perfect skills at dicing potatoes, tomatoes and cucumbers; and then made meatballs and calzones later.
Bruce and Elspeth helped Avery chop 50 pounds of potatoes for breakfast.

Avery took charge of the line, distributing burritos to riders and crew.

Eric bravely worked next to the "Boss."
One of the challenges of the ride is making food for 300 with minimal equipment and space, and in just a few hours time.  The amazing ACT 9 Food Crew made it look easy.

It's all-hands-on-deck to assemble 300+ burritos just an hour before bikers and crew will want to eat them!

Grandpa Steve came to Spring Green to help us out on Day 1!
